Don't know if you saw it on my Ken Wright post on the Pinot thread yesterday, but Anne and I now own a farm in Saline County, about 45 min from Columbia. We're getting to know the area, and we had a wonderfully unexpected discovery.

One of the nearby little farm towns, Slater, has a general store (called, fittingly, Slater General Store). Amidst the aisles of hardware, plumbing supplies, and other typical general store items, they stock and carry a wine range of gluten-free grocery items! Go figure! Evidently, one of the owners has Celiac and was frustrated at having to go into Columbia all the time, so they started carrying gluten free stuff at their general store. Slater is only a few minutes away from our farm (which is between Gilliam and Arrow Rock, near the Missouri River), so it's fantastic news for Anne. How utterly random that they carry it, but I know she's not complaining!

Anyway, I'll be in touch as we plan trips up there in the coming months, and perhaps we could find the time to get together and share a bottle or three

Dan,
I didn't see the other thread until now.
Congrats on the new place!

That's a GREAT find on the gf foods!
When we visit Glasgow, we'll have to take the ferry across (darn bridge) to check out the store.

For what it's worth, the Hy-Vee in Columbia has a great selection of gf foods.

We will have to have a bottle or three sometime... I do miss plenty of threads here, so my e-mail address is

Congratulations again!

Thanks for the Hy-Vee heads-up. Yeah, we're only about 5 minutes from the 240 bridge at Glasgow (which is a terribly inconvenient ferry for the next year). Will be in touch next time we're headed up your way!

So, Dan, do you and Anne get Glasgow up to about 1500 residents?? Quite a difference from Atlanta!!

No, technically, we'll get Gilliam's population up to 222 (according to City Data) or 231 (according to Wiki). But, yes, it is a far cry from Atlanta
