A beautifully warm day today, so I decide to get the jump on pruning fruit trees and rose bushes for the season. But, after looking in the two places it should be, cannot find the trimmer anywhere. An hour later, the day is lost to rain, still no hand trimmer.

You guessed it, the last to use them was not I--was my wife, who never puts anything back where it belongs. You'd be amazed where I find things like knives...

Anyway, I've decided the only way out is to buy two of everything so that I can have my own, and will always know where the stuff is. Tomorrow I start by buying my own hand trimmer. Of course, tomorrow we are scheduled to go back to winter weather with a drop in temps and a snow storm. Grrrrrrrr.

Was this a rant or rave?WW

- hotwine - 02-16-2006

Foodster, your approach won't work. I've tried it - buying two of every tool needed around the house. She simply uses the one that's closest to hand and completely ignores the "ownership" concept. She can lose two of something every bit as well as she loses one. Maybe better.

- Thomas - 02-16-2006

Gil,

It gets even better. I found out that this is all my fault. This is the logic: I don't use the hand trimmer more than twice a year, so I should not complain that I can't find it when I go to where it is supposed to be because I don't use it enough to expect it to be in its prescribed location.

When I figure out what that means I'll let you know.

And when I buy two of everything--one of everything will stay with me, hidden somewhere where she won't suspect it, so I will always know where the stuff is.

After 32 years you would think I'd have made some impact

Ah, so you gave up ownership by not using it often enough. Of course it's your fault. How could it be otherwise?

All we can say is "Yes, dear. No, dear. Right away, dear." Yeah, and BS dear. And duck.

This all came in handy yesterday when we lost electric power for nearly 24 hours--and had the potential of not being able to find anything easily--the lamp oil, the flashlight batteries, the matches--but I knew exactly where everything was, and for that I got the chance to beat her at scrabble under lamplight. Sweet revenge.

While we polished off 1.5 bottles of a fine Bergerac.

They say a lot of babies are born nine months after events like this!

- VouvrayHead - 02-18-2006

hey foodie, i'm sure this is mentioned elsewhere on the boards, but is that your book you link to?

- Thomas - 02-18-2006

The link in my profile? Yes it is.

A new book is coming in the summer.

- robr - 02-18-2006

"I found out that this is all my fault."

It's always the man's fault, didn't you know that by now? As my wife says, "Adam was a rough draft, He got it right with Eve."

I have to add your "Garlic, Wine and Olive Oil" book to my wishlist at Amazon now. That list is getting really long. Is the new one you're working on an updated edition, or a totally new book?

- Thomas - 02-18-2006

Bern,

The new one is something I've been working on for years. In fact, the Garlic, et al, book was branched off from the research I was doing on the next book.

Book 2 traces the 8,000 year history of the wine trade from a mostly commercial perspective. It's to be released in summer, and I will let the bb know when it arrives. I'll do it through the commerce thread.

- brappy - 02-22-2006

I don't know.... I kind of like not knowing where anything is. "I'm not sure where that is dear" hehehe

- wondersofwine - 02-22-2006

Foodie,
You'd be amazed where I find things like knives...
If they are not planted in your back or chest you are doing okay.

I had the following conversation with a Army E-4 and a field grade officer. I was helping the E-4 when an impatient NCO tried to jump the line and get his business done first. I told him I was helping someone else and would get to him shortly. When he left I commented aloud that he could use a little more patience and the E-4 said "he's an NCO so he isn't used to being told what to do. I'm nobody so I'm used to being told to wait." I said I hoped the NCO didn't take that attitude home with him. The E-4 promptly said with a smile "I get told what to do around home too!" I said "from your spouse?" He said "yes." The field grade officer piped in and said, "Son, I've been married 18 years and it doesn't get any better." Nice chuckle.

My wife never tells me what to do--let me re-state that--she tries to tell me what to do, but I never listen to what my wife tells me...which is why, she says, I never know where anything is hidden

Give it up, Foodie -- we're not buying it. Now come out from under the bed already.
