Some times its an advantage living in a state that's practically surrounded by Canada. Once in awhile we can corral one of them. So last night I took mother and unmarried daughter Christine to see Gordon Lightfoot at the Maine Center for the Arts in Orono. He was wonderful. Didn't miss a lick, though a little drolly on the patter. One is always encouraged to see one older than one doing so well.
He sang Early Morning Rain, Canadian Railroad Trilogy (he said for 22,000 time), Softly (had to give mother a squeeze), For Loving Me/Did She Mention My Name, Sundown (Y-E-S!), Summer Of My Life, Rainy Day People, Don Quixote, If You Could Read My Mind, Carefree Highway (especially for WW), Wreck Of The Edmond Fitzgerald, and many others.
On the way up we stopped again at the Bahaar Pakistani Restaurant in Bangor. This is the place that let's you bring your own wine with no corkage fees. So we loaded up the wine tote with a bottle of Philip Staley's 1997, Russian River Valley, Mourvedre. It married well with our varied Pakistani curry dishes. Life is good.

I have some of his old albums (yes those 33's that you can hardly find a player for anymore but I may have transfered some to reel-to-reel tape--another anachronism). I also had at least one album from Ian and Sylvia (they were Canadanian folk singers I believe) and a French-Canadian sister duet that had an ethereal sound.
