($9.99) deep ruby color, with just a hint of purple. blackberry, raspberry, blueberry and shiraz spice. this is a thick and juicy wine. it coats the tongue and has a very long finish - expecially if you factor in the price. both wine spectator and wine enthusiast rate this a best buy. i agree. and i get the feeling the silky tannins will carry it for a while. i can't wait to see what this will taste like in 2-3 years.

bottom line: there were 14,000 cases of this wine made. go get some; you won't regret it. for reference, here's how i compare it to the 2000 Buckley's Shiraz i recently posted on (and tasted them side by side tonight). i like the buckley's and would buy more. but i'm stopping at the wine store on my way home from work monday and buying those four more bottles of the paringa i saw left on the shelf. in fact, if they have a case in the back, i'll take it.

ladies and gentlemen, this one is a keeper.

This has been a best seller at Carolina Wine Company in Raleigh. I tried it at an open bottle tasting on a Saturday and liked it but didn't buy any at the time. May get a few bottles this Thursday if they aren't sold out. I should try it side by side with the Rosemount and see which I prefer.

i haven't had them side by side, but for me would kinda be like comparing apples and oranges, even though they're both shiraz. for me the paringa is much more complex and a serious wine, with its layers of flavor and thickness. rosemount is quite tasty but for me fairly one-dimensional. don't get me wrong though, that one dimension of bright red fruit is very appealing. i just think the paringa has a lot more to offer.
