2003 Propero Vineyard Tempest Meritage 13% Alcohol $15.00

This is a first for me. This is a white meritage, based on Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier. The bottle doesn't mentioned the proportion but I assume that Chardonnay is the leading grape.

Very clear and light color.

Nose of pear, green apples, star fruit, and vanilla. Some oakiness but not on the offending side.

In the mouth you can fill the acidity of the Sauvignon and some sweetness.

Love it....!

Never heard of Propero, but that blend isn't a Meritage. A white Meritage can only contain Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and/or Sauvignon Vert. According to the regs of the Meritage Association, no other varieties are permitted.

Correction, the name should be Prospero Winery. Sorry about that.

The Meritage name is in the label and the description of the grape used is on the label. Since this is a California thing, I don't doubt that they used what ever they have and call it whatever came to their minds...

Fume Blanc anyone...?
