1999--earthy (but not overly so) nose, crisp acidity, grapefruit qualities to the taste--$10. New Zealand.

Sounds like a very good wine at a decent price.

If I see any around here, I'll try it!

Stoneleigh is a real sleeper. The only downside to NZ Sauv Blanc is the fruit fades very quickly once opened. If you try to drink it the next day, all these wines change in a major way.

I've had the Stoneleigh several times, and I keep going back to it. It's a nice suggestion Foodie, because it is very food- friendly (crisp acidity) and (so far) very consistent.

Under the Sauvingnon Blanc heading, I put a note up on Nobilo (1999), another NZ sauv blanc "steal deal" at $8.99 retail, which has a bit more up-front fruit than the Stoneleigh.

Both are delightful.

Cheers,

It seems ever since Richard Smart started consulting in the vineyards of N. Zealand, the asparagus and heavy grassy tones of Sauvignon Blanc have diminished. He teaches proper canopy management, et al.

Stoneleigh used to be up and down; it is now consistently good.
