HELP I am having a winetasting this weekend. The theme is Brotherhood winery in NY. I don't know what finger foods goes with what wine. Can anyone help.

I didn't mean for this to be homework as was suggested to another participant. I thought there were experts on board which would find it easy to give a suggestion. By the way I have had no responses!! I'm surprised.

I'll be serving
RED Mariage Reserve, Cabernet Sauvignon
WHITE Johannisberg Reisling, Chardonnay, Seyval Blan

In my opinion, few so-called finger foods pair with good wine, assuming you mean things like those little meatballs, sausages, dips and chips, et al.

In the case of Brotherhood wines, however, it likely is ok to serve the above.

You could serve Carrs Table Water Crackers or oyster crackers so the tasters can "clear their palates" between sips.

You could serve oysters on the half-shell (baked or raw), chilled, peeled shrimps, and a decent home-made crab dip with the whites. If the Chardonnay is not over-oaked and is crisp you could serve artichoke hearts.

You could serve a variety of hard cheeses such as cheddar, Parmesan, Manchego, mature Gouda or Gruyere with the cab sav.

However, I am not familiar with Brotherhood wines...............

Cleomcgill,

I'm glad you've gotten some responses. I was going to suggest calling Brotherhood Winery and asking the winemaker, Caesar Baeza, for his suggestions. The phone number is (914) 496-9101.

BTW, I hope you and others don't take the "homework" comment wrong. We often get postings from students who are enrolled in classes (hospitality industry classes) asking for help with their class assignments when they concern wine. That's all... We try to respond to everyone. Fortunately, we have a very friendly group of moderators and contributors with lots of suggestions and expertise to back it.

Jackie

Sorry I did not see your question until too late. For your next tasting: (as I am sure after doing one you will
want to do more!) Try some fruit and veggies that can also help you notice some of the flavors in the wines.
Figs, slices of pears, peaches, whole raspberries, blueberries, strawberries in fans. Some bell pepper strips (try
orange peppers with riesling sometime) and a selection of olives in small bowls. Put them on a tray with your cheeses & use the raspberries and blueberries on top as a decoration with some edible violets and mum's. Put a basket of assorted breads in thin slices next to it. Looks great and works very well with the wine tasting!
