1998 Banrock Station Shiraz
Very dark ruby color, almost opaque, with a nose of blackberry and tobacco. Dark fruit flavors mingle with blackberry, chocolate, tar and tobacco and finish with a slightly astringent, peppery long finish. Great QPR all for $6.99! My new daily drinker.

Drew,
Lucky for you to find the '98. It is, IMHO, better than the '99 now available. We ran a thread on Banrock in June(?). Good stuff, QPR winner!

For some reason my wine store has numerous cases of this fine wine....lovin it all!

The train crashes at the '99 Banrock Station Shiraz station.
Picked up some daily drinkers the other day and thought I'd try the '99 version. Great bouquet of black cherry and raspberry. Clear med. dark ruby, med. body with diluted flavors of dark fruit and black cherry, no tar flavors which I like about Banrock, and a general tartness about the wine. It finishes with a slight bitter note. Thankfully only $6.49.

Vintages still matter, even in Oz!

Isn't it WONDERFUL! Mmmm.... I discovered it about 6 months ago, and have been raving about it ever since. Even my dad, who is a Shiraz snob, loved it -- and he thought he was drinking the Rosemount at first too. I certainly have several bottles at home.

Have you tried a Malbec from Argentina?

- Innkeeper - 01-24-2001

Trapiche, Oak Cask, Malbec is certainly another fantastic buy and a great wine.

I re-visited this ol friend tonight. A wonnerfull wine for $6.99, less by the case. So different from the '99 vintage...once again, if you can find it, buy it so you can, as the Coneheads said, "consume in mass quantities!!"

Popped another tonight. Still evolving with pronounced dark fruit, tar, tobacco and an emerging cocoa flavor. Good finish. A nice effort from a gabillion bottle release in a great vintage for Australia.
