While browsing my favorite shop today, stumbled upon some more '98 Les Fiefs de LaGrange at $15.99, and one I hadn't seen before: Deerfield Ranch Syrah at $21.99; only 200 cases made. We're fans of Deerfield's SB, so we're looking forward to trying the Syrah. (We haven't tried the Fiefs yet, either; the one bottle I bought a few months ago is still resting comfortably.)

Hopefully, you've got a great buy Gil. '98 was not their best year. Should be OK though. Have my '97 tagged for '06. You might tag your '98 for the same year. Don't worry, have had wonderful luck with so called off years.

Not familiar at all with Deerfield Ranch.

Deerfield Ranch is a very small winery and inn on Highway 12 in northern CA, between Glen Ellen and Kenwood. It's kind of a boutique outfit, with tiny production runs, but their SB is very impressive, so we're hoping the Syrah will be also. They also make a Cab-Merlot blend, but we've not tried that one, either. We were introduced to the SB at a Saturday wine tasting at Joe Saglimbeni's Fine Wines in San Antonio a couple of years ago.
I'll take your advice on when to pop the Fiefs. Thanks.

I neglected to add that Deerfeld Ranch has a Web site at http://www.deerfieldranch.com. It looks like they are expanding their facilites, production and variety of offerings.

I tried their Sangiovese 99 -- pretty nice, about an 86 pointer.
