Strawberry, fig, licorice, truffle, and pronounced minerality made this wine well balanced. Fleshy tannins and got better as time progressed.

Absolutely a worth-while buy and complimented my veal and truffle fries well. Strong recommendation. 93/94

Was this your expectation of the wine? I only ask this cuz I've only tried a few producers of the 07 CDP and all of the were much brighter, cleaner, and more "koolaid" than I would have thought. Now my sample size has been small but yours sounded almost like you felt there was something missing despite being technically solid. I've also not tried VT which tends to be more traditional.

No I actually was not expecting this since I tried the 07 La Nerthe a few weeks ago and found it to be exactly how you described... This was shockingly good. Like I said, that score may have been influence by the truffle fries which no doubt made me feel like a spoiled piglet.

VT is the wine (1978) along with Guigals Cote Rotie (78) that opened my eyes to that wunnerful region. Have a box of the 07s comfy and patiently waiting in the thingie. Will probably start tasting them dudies around 12(that be 2012). WW

WW,

I don't think you have to wait that long for the 07. Pop one open now and see what you think.

Some day I'm going to go on a sabbatical too--someday.

This was my favorite of the 2007 vintage CdP wines we tasted at the Charlotte Wine and Food Festival in April. I won the bid for six bottles of this which will be shipped to me in early October. The 2007 was a ripe vintage--perhaps atypical. The others I liked in the tasting were the Beaucastel and the Roger Sabon. http://forum.wines.com/newSite/forum.phpf=3&t=31942&p=270369&hilit=roger+sabon#p270369
