- naciyemustafa - 02-07-2000 what wine goes with lamb shank panfried chicken which has a maderia sauce. mossaka, scallops with broad bean purre, artichoke with a french dressing. - Thomas - 02-07-2000 Lamb shank pan fried chicken? Explain, please. - Innkeeper - 02-07-2000 Cotes du Rhone. - tommy_d - 02-27-2000 i always say...wine and food are a relationship not much unlike chosing a mate: you either pick a wine and food pairing that are either exact opposites, so they balance each other, or pick those that have a lot in common. both theories work in interpersonal relationships, and i think they work with food too! an acidic pasta with red sauce may need a fruity chianti, or a turkey with sweet cranberry sauce would be well complimented by a sweet gewurtz. and, of course, when in doubt, wines with high acidity, and low "oak", are generally best for whatever you're eating!! happy eating. - misterjive - 02-28-2000 Cotes du Rhone sounds right on, and many Rhone rangers would be good for the same reasons. I do believe the RH Phillips EXP Syrah would work wonders with this meal, although before I sat down at the table, I'd want to see a picture of the beast that produced the lamb shank panfried chicken. Calvin Trilllin once wrote that he always imagined "Surfnturfs" to be large, underwater cows. Maybe lamb-chickens are related. Sorry, I couldn't resist. The meal sounds delicious, and the variety of ingredients suggests to me two bottles--white to start, and red for the main course. - Paddy - 03-03-2000 Ok, so I've really NEVER paid attention to wines before. I'm setting up a dinner party and plan on a Merlot. What should the dinner be? I've heard beef. Is this right? Thanks. - Innkeeper - 03-03-2000 Right. For info on beef go to the current long posting under Best Buys. |
