My first encounter with Bookwalter, a winery in the Columbia Valley. This is a blend of 37% Merlot, 33% Cab Franc, 28% Cab Sauvignon and 2% Sangioese. Very floral on the nose with dark plum, violet and vanilla. Flavors of mature dark fruit, soft and easy on the entry with the Cab and Cab Franc offering complexity in the mid with some earthiness. There is some oak but it's balanced and not overwhelming. A new world Rhone blend that's tasty. 13.9%Alc/vol. Got it in the bargin bin for $7.33

Loved Bookwalter wines when they shipped to me, but no longer. Understand Buckmeister likes them too. This sounds more like a Bordeaux blend than a Rhone blend, but I guess it's in the eye, nose, mouth of the beholder.

The son is slowly taking over the winemaking duties. It will be fun to see how the winery progresses.

You're right, IK, talk about fumble fingers. I knew it was a Bordeaux blend but tasted more Rhonish.
