Hi.. I'm attending a dinner party at a friend's house over the weekend and was wondering on some wine suggestions. The dinner will be mostly french and the main dish is beef.

I will probably bring two bottles, so I was thinking of the following:

-bordeaux
-cotes du rhone
-shiraz

Any advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Hi NYC Girl, and welcome to the Wine Board. I like to (but not always) drink a country's wine with a country's cuisine. Therefore, like your idea of a Bordeaux or a Rhone. Might go with another Rhone provided your retailer assures you it is approachable. Suggestions include a Crozes Hermitage, Gigondas, or a Chateauneuf du Pape (CDP). You might also think about and consult your retailer about a full bodied Burgundy such as a Volnay. Shiraz is made from the same grape as a Crozes Hermitage and other Rhones, but comes from Australia, South Africa, and a few ever opportunistic Californians.
