After the relative disappointment of the Champagne for my birthday dinner, this was a definite winner for me.
$25 13%
Inky in the glass, this was a bit brooding, but charming beneath its surly exterior.
We decanted 2 hours or so, and while the fruit never came in as more than a hint of cherries and black currants, this wine exhibited strong notes of sandalwood, tar, and chocolate, or you could just say spicy, and a bit earthy. I loved it with the food, which was a vegan gluten-free pizza with asparagus, garlic, chili flakes, and black olives.
Very happy with this one.

I love Chapoutier's stuff, up and down the range (mostly lower in the range cuz his top stuff is crazy expensive....). At minimum, they are at least well made and interesting wines. Sounds like yours was a winner! BTW, Happy Belated Birthday!
