I'm smiling. Tried this at my local pusher's place.
This is an aged Hermitage. By the time I got to taste it it had been opened for at least 6 hours so it was starting to fall apart but not too much. Clear brick in color, port like nose and all sorts of other aromas. Nice! Needed decanting due to LOTS of sediment.
Picked up a bottle to go home with too.

Aren't those nice wines? I picked up a case of the 1987 Hermitage a year ago last February. Have four bottles left and the one I had last month was still magic. Brought a few to the group offline at Glenora in the Finger Lakes last year and the folks liked them - at least they said they did.

Does anybody have a view on the 1995? I have a few bottles of this and am wondering if this Christmas dinner would be a good time to open them.

It's drinkable now, but if it were mine, I'd wait another 2 or maybe 3 years.

I loved this one. This one appears to have aged gracefully. I think I prefer the 1990 that I've also got hidden for a while but this thing was just pretty. I don't mind the barnyard, in fact, does not register with me as a hinderence, I'm just very afraid of overoaked wines.

I would agree with kc, hold onto that baby for another few years....the 1990 is drinking sooooooo nice now.......I'm now understanding this aging thing a bit better now and how infanticide should only be done from a case purchase decision....though my continuing education in wine allows me to open then at anytime and claim absolute ignorance...
