1998 Terre Rouge, Shenandoah Valley California, Sentinel Oak Vineyard, Pyramid Block, Syrah ($30). Weighs in at 14.3 % alcohol, 3.60 PH, and 6.3 gm./liter acidity. Had it with our Easter Dinner tonight. One of those wines that stops you cold with the first sip amongst great food and great conversation; as in whoa! From the incredible aroma, to the flood of fruit, concentration, smokey oak, and complexity across the palate, to fire alarm finish, a wine you must enjoy someday. The folks at Easton say it can age, but I can't imagine it getting any better. Mother wanted me to get on to the dessert, but I said, "Not until I finish the wine." She said, "Well give me some more." Can't think of any wine that would have gone better with the lamb and flageolets this evening.

Picked up another of these in the Fall '03 Mixed Case. Popped it tonight with broiled lamb loin chops with the very last of our lastest batch of aioli. She had asparagus and I had limas with it. Almost needless to say, it has gotten even better and might well go for another year or two. We consumed all in front of a roaring fire, after the last of the kids and grandkids had left. Life is wonderful.

Had the '99 tonight. Price is up to $35, but we got ours with the fall '04 mixed shipment. Alcohol level is up to 14.5%. The only thing that was different than the '98 is that it was better. Get their fall shipment every year. Contact Easton/Terre Rouge. If they say they won't ship to you, argue with them.

Tonight we had broiled loin lamb chops from our very own spring lamb (raised by nice people). Yum. Salad with blue cheese dressing too!
