2006 Wild Pig, Syrah, Vin de Pays D’OC ($12.99 NH Liq Store). Alcohol level: 13.5%. This may be a premium price as a search after purchase it showed on win-searcher for as low as $7.99 U.S. The wine is brought to you by the same folks that gave you the Fat Bastard brand; oddly at about the same price point.

This is definitely made in a warm clime, New World style. That was OK with us for our Shrove Tuesday dinner. It gave a rush of red and black fruit on the nose and up front. More fruit came in gobs in the jammy complexity yet firm structure in the middle. It finished graciously.

We matched it with grillpanned lamb leg steaks that were marinated in an emulsion of herbs, lemon, and EVOO; cous cous with toasted pistachio nuts and mint; and a lovely tossed salad. Then we watched the events in New Orleans.
