Thought that I would treat myself tonight.

This wine was huge upon first open. I was at least a few feet away when a friend opened it and I was blown away by the nose. Color was definitely dark brickish but no aging rim. The nose was intense initially, full of cedar, barnyard, leather and a hint of gameyness. The taste was just not as intense as the nose though. Still a large wine, there is little fruit, but similar to nose. The mouthfeel is rounded and a medium-long finish though only. This wine evolved quickly in the glass and in the bottle so glad that we opened it.

Nice..but the next bottle of the evening was even better.

We've been working through a case of the 1987 Hermitage, and it's still doing very, very well. A few others on the board tasted this when I brought it to the FL offline in 04.

Has been one of my staple Rhone suppliers for years. Had some incredible Cote Roties that lived for 25+ years. Hermitages' haven't been a staple of mine but have had a few super bottlings. WW
