Superripe fruit, and plenty of it, low acid and very tasty right now. There's a licorice note and also hints of what I think was nutty coffee, but maybe that's my imagination running wild. A very good buy at the $18 sale price and another solid endorsement of the '98 Southern Rhones.

I had it with a ratatouille baked with feta and served with French bread. The ratatouille is fairly sweet and dried the wine out somewhat, revealing some fine tannin that I hadn't noticed. The wine was still good, but this was not an ideal match.
