Bonny Doon Old Telegram, 1998 California Mataro (Mourvedre).

This slightly expensive gem is just missing one thing, in my humble opinion. No earth here so it is not very Cote de Provence or Southern Rhone as proclaimed by the label.

Beautiful clarity and depth of color, very fruit forward with hints of chocolate. Some oak in there also (which is not a bad thing in a red - I think most agree on that point) and a slight tannic finish.

If this juice were less expensive I'd choose it over IK's Staley. But the Aussies win over Bonney Doon when the total QPR is considered.

This was about 14.5% alcohol and about $38.00 for the bottle (single bottle price).

$38! Hell a really good CdP is less than that.... oh well, what the heck. You can't drink CdP every day, or can you.

Hi there Misserdeesboogs. Haven't had the pleadure of this bottling. My gracious 38 smackers sounds steep for one of Randalls' bottles. My favorite so far of his 98s' is the " Le Cigar Voliant " at a mere 24.99. Do the local suppliers be putting it to my ole sailor buddy? WW

NO, I dont think so. The price on the east coast is the same as has been quoted by wine-searcher for places on the west coast - CALI not FLORIDA......

However, I've not checked their web site for further information.

It was a tastey libation........
