I have discovered that the only wines I seem to really enjoy are the very sweet ones. However, I haven't found all that many. Does anyone have a suggestion of a very sweet wine that I might want to try?

You were previously looking for Italian wines; a sweet red from there widely distributed is Lambrusco. Sweet white wines include Riesling, Chenin Blanc, and Gewurtztraminer that do not say "dry" on the label in any language. Germans while say "troken."

Having said all that, I think you live right in the middle of Missouri Wine Country. Almost all the wineries there make both red and white wines across the sweetness spectrum. Visit one soon and do some tasting. For example: http://www.mountpleasant.com/

Hehehehe...IK you know I'd jump in on this one. I love the following sweet wines!

Canadian Icewines
Germany Riesling Auslese
French Sauternes

For a bit more affordable ones, you can try Austrian Riesling Eisweins and Californian Muscat's (typically 1/2 bottles. Ports are good as well.

Have fun!

Hey Cho Cho, you should have mentioned they are dessert wines. I always think table wine until someone says otherwise.

IK, You are totally right. All the above wines ar dessert wines except for the Riesling Auslese.

BTW..I totally agree with you. However, I did have some female friends drop by who never liked wine before and they they opened up a bottle of icewine. The loved the stuff and proceeded to eat dinner with it despite some measure of protest from me. They mention something about everyone's taste being different, purist are too much and if they like it so what.... After that, I only let them open cheap bottles of late harvest Riesling....no bothers with the good stuff. Saving that for me! Hey Eng,

Is Canadian eiswine affordable? I have not looked for it yet, but i'm pretty sure I know of a local store where I can get my mitts on some.

To me "affordable" is in the $20-$30 range.

Bern,

You're right!. My mistake. Most of the time they are a bit pricey....like in the $90+ range per half bottle. I have the fortunate case where I can travel to Canada occasionally and I do find some deals. Last time I was there, they were selling Chateaux des Charmes late harvest riesling (I know it still not icewine) for $6.95 per half bottle.....cheaper than the standard riesling! Still there are some deals to be found. Some liek Magliotta (sp) and Ancient Coast sell regularly for $29 CDN per half bottle and that is about $25 USD. That makes it a more reasonable buy. But in general you are right. ...they are still much cheaper than their Germany counterparts which are often in the $200+ per half bottle range....I don't get many of those

You can also get Finger Lakes (now that you know where they are) Ice Wines in the mid to high teens for a 375 ml bottle. Love the Vidal Ice Wine that some of them make.

Inneskillen Winery has a small sample icewine bottle available (about $9.00CDN) generally up at the cash registers here in Ontario at our Liquor Stores. Not sure if they are available in the US. Just a taste but it is orgasmic

In the $20-$30 range (or less) don't forget about Moscato di Asti (It)and Muscat de Beaumes de Venise (Fr). Both favorites for different reasons.
