My local pusher is real excited about this winery, so I bought a couple different bottles from this Paso Robles producer.

This is a blend of Syrah, Mouvedre and, of all things, Zinfandel. I have not had a blend like this before, but it definitely works. The flavor profile is all Cali Rhone, but the Zin does give it a little of that brambly berry fruit.

I have had few wines that evolved so much in the glass. This was drinking after a good hour and a half and continued to improve for a couple more as I watched my Horns win the first round of the NCAA's.

Dark garnet color, lovely nose of deep fruit. Starts with bright cherries and strawberry on the nose, then turns dark on the palate with blackberry, blueberry, and nicely integrate vanilla oak. Very nice concentrated fruit with a long finish.

I did not get that white and black pepper that I typically associate with Paso Syrah. Also, this has a more velvety texture and structure that I associate with Northern Cali Syrah (Napa, Sonoma).

It is not quite as good as the best Syrahs that I have had in this price range (Novy, L'Aventure, JC, Parsonage, Pax, Neyers, etc.), but it is so close that I will definitely be purchasing more and trying the other cuvees from this winery. Huge potential.

It retails for 30 and is a thorougly pleasing wine. Highly recommended.
