I know I posted on this wine before but can't find the thread.
A beautiful syrah for $10 bucks. Beautiful color, almost opaque ruby/garnet with tinges of purple. The scents jumped out of the glass and I finished this bottle on day two, which showed better, saying "decant me long". Classic southern French syrah flavors, earth, mushroom, leather, cassis...short on the entry but mini explosion on the finish. Moderately astringent start to finish. A Bonny Doon Vineyard import. Go get yourself some.

First day I was not sure I liked it. Seemed to be a bit too earthy for my tastes.

Second day it mellowed out and was GREAT!

I agree with Drew, let this one breathe for a while then drink it and enjoy it!

You know Mike, I was slow on this one. It took me 3 or 4 bottles to figure out that you got to let this puppy breath for a long while.

And to top it all off....... the label is worth keeping just for the art!!

Drew and anyone interested. The stuff is $11.99 a bottle here in Norfolk/Virginia Beach area.

I just bought another bottle today, along with some Cline Cotes D'Oakley and a Fat Bastard Syrah.

You da man...Mike!!!

Popped another old friend tonight and it was more earthy, fruity and complex than previous. Still evolving and drinking great. $9

Drew,
Have you got a major preference between this 'joker' and the Cline Syrah you reviewed above?

Second question: has anyone tasted the '99 Domaine des Blaqueurs? I see it on sale here for $8, wondered if it was vastly different from the '98 (which I like).

- Drew - 10-13-2001

Zenda, I like the "joker" better because of the natural notes...terroir. If you like the Old World style I suggest you try wines from Negly, Coteaux du Languedoc...they’re wonderful.

I guess I hadn't ever answered my own question, the '99 Syrah,Sirrah is dandy. Poured it & let it sit, very smooth but spicy, light tannins, great nose (see above) it went very well tonite with a pork loin and wild rice risotto. A good buy.
