Still very concentrated, much stronger on the palate than on the nose. Even after an hour or two, still dominated by cherry jam. Not my cup of tea, a one-trick pony that was just not my thing. $18.

I've never been a fan of Guigal except for their high-end stuff, which is now ridiculously priced...

Back in the late 70s and early 80s Etienne was making IMHO the benchmark Rhones from the Cote Rotie. Looked back and paid 8.50 per for the incredibbly great 78 and drank the last one 3 or 4 years ago. Course the Diamond Creek 78s were 12.50 a clatter at the time and the ole price-gougers Joe Phelps and Charlie Wagner were selling their Insignia and Special Selection forall of 25. (SOB). WW

Boy, sure do remember the prices way back then. I recall paying somewhere around $75 for a case of 1967 Ch. Lafite Rothschild and just slightly more for a case of 1967 DRC Echezeaux back in 1969 or 1970. Those were heady prices for me back then, but what the hey, you only go around once. Times sure have changed.

The 99 is a dandy that drinks well now but will continue to improve for another five years and hold even longer.
