1998 J & F Lurton Syrah Vin de Pays d'Oc Les Bateaux.
The nose... hints of meat, bacon, leather, earth and black fruit. Dark to dark black ruby, medium body and fatty mouth feel. Very subtle tastes of bacon and meat and fruit, not a fruit driven wine. 12.5% alcohol. Had a glass before dinner....ok. With peppercorn encrusted and marinated pork loin, Maryland corn and tomatoes was a little better. I think this wine would be better with the proper food pairing. I still thought it a little acidic for my dinner. I paid $5.95 including tax case lot. A very nice wine for the money but not a WS 87. Wine Spectator notes: "A delicious and sinewy Syrah, with loads of red plum, berry and red cherry flavors overlaid with beautifully articulated game and leather notes. There's plenty of backbone and flavor. Drink now. (10000 cases produced)"

Since as you posted elsewhere, you just got that case home today; is it possible you didn't let it rest long enough?

I just checked and the remaining bottles are snoring loudly.
