One of the few $$ bottles of American Syrah I enjoy each vintage. I'm having a change of heart though. Yes, this was a very nice red with penty of soft red fruit, a rich complex nose with a nice touch of spice, and a decent finish. However, I just don't see $60 worth of juice here. Would be a nice fair value at $20, but at it's current price, I'm calling it quits with this yearly purchase.

GAD, I have been buying this cuvee as well for the past couple of years. I agree that it is excellent and have had the 99, 00, and 01 this year when the opportunity presented itself at one of my favorite restaurants. It ages well, thought I prefer it a little younger.

But is it really worth the 60+ per bottle? I am leaning with your thought that the 03 might be my last year to buy it. Cali Syrah is really improving, and you can buy some great stuff for less than half the price.

Have you tried any of the mailing list Syrahs - Novy, Pax, Kosta Browne, Carlisle, Radio-Coteau? Just ordered my full allocation off the latest Novy mailer of the Parson's Syrah (new one from extra fruit from Carlisle) and Santa Lucia Highlands Syrah (blend from Garys', Rosella's and Pisoni vyds). Well priced at $33 and $32 respectively, and these wines made by Adam Lee are at least the equal of the Relentless.

Novy is one of my personal favorites. Some of the best Syrah I have ever tasted. I should look into getting onto their mailing list.

KC, I agree as I have been on a Cali Syrah kick for the past year or so. Lots of great juice being made right now.
