2001 Baron Knyphausen, Erbacher Steinmorgen, Riesling Kabinett, Rheingau ($13.99 Roof Bros, Paducah, KY). Alcohol 9.5%. My favorite kind of German wine. Even though this was of the bargain basement variety, it was lovely, but probably would not have improved much with more age.

Gave us green apples, lean citrus, and a hint of petrol on the nose and upfront. Off dry sweetness, a touch of minerality, and a nice balance of ripper fruit and teasing acidity all delightfully crossed our palates. And the lingering finish was splendid.

Matched with sauteed haddock a la creme, and salad in raspberry-hazelnut vinaigrette dressing. Just love these Friday nights.

I haven't had that one, IK, but I like the Schloss Schonborn Erbacher Marcobrunn.
