Tasted a vertical of rieslings at the Boston Wine expo. The intent was to try everything between QBA, trocken, GG, etc, through to Auslese. All wines are under $30 with many under $20 so it was nice to see some wines with great QPR.

2007 Dr. H Thanisch, Riesling Classic, Mosel (QBA). Pale, hint of green, slightly muted nose, elegant, floral, on plate, stoney fruit, apple, minerals, good acidity but thinner and short finish.

2007 J.L. Wolf, Wachenhiemer Belz, Pfalz:, Trochen Made by Dr. Loosen I think, more Golden in colour, ripe, stone fruits, apple, hint of petrol, good minerality, stronger, nicely structure and rounder wine.

2007 Pfeffingen, Riesling Grosses Gewachs, Weilberg, Pfalz, Very floral nose, more spicy, good minerality, stony aromas, touch of carbonation is nice, high tone acidity, bone dry with good acidity, elegant wine, long persistence.

2007 Zilliken, Butterfly, Riesling off-dry Model. Light, pure, clean, pale straw with green tint, floral, juicy, red apple, less focused than others.

2006 Peter Brum, Noblesse, Rheinhessen (QBA), Hit of petrol, , more muted, mellow, apple, shorter finish and low acidity.

2006 Schloss Schonborn, Riesling , Rheingau, Nose is green apples, earthier, dandelions, slight funkiness, slight carbonation, good minerality and lingering finish.,

2007 St. Urbans-Hof Ockfener Bockstein Riesling Kabinett, Mosel, Pretty nose, floral, hit of acidity, clean, white flowers, carbonation, sense of steeliness on the nose, very delicate, vervy, high tone acidity, lingering long finish.

2007 Von Schubert, Maximin Grunhauser Abtsberg, Riesling Spatlese, Mosel, Bright golden color, hint of green apples, herbs, candied lemon, tarragon, petrol nose, golden raisins, nice bright acidity, lemon peel, peaches, tart and nicely balanced.

2006 Dr. Loosen, Urziger Wurgarten Riesling Auslese, light pale with green tint, very floral nose, focused but spicy, nectarines, stone fruits, honey, earthy, citrus rinds, slighted muted nose, but pretty and elegant, great finish, very clean and nice acidity.

Looks like there are some nice 2007 German Rieslings on the market. Thanks for the notes.

WoW, I would agree with that. They are not as ripe or as complex as the 2005 and certainly are not the equal of the 2001's but they are balanced wines with good acidity and easy to drink.
