thanks for the help guys. to be more specific so as not to anger anyone, I would like to know if this vintage of this wine is ready to drink. I'm sorry but my knowledge of wine is limited and I didn't know what to look for. The label reads
rhien-hessen weingut bungert-mauer
odenheimer kreuz beeren auslese
1975
thanks for any information you could give me about it. david

NOW we're getting somewhere. A beerenauslese! That's an important part of the label because it indicates that the grapes were picked in a special condition of ripeness and sweetness (like nectar). I would surmise that if the wine was not subjected to careless storage, you have a very delectable dessert wine in your hands. Maybe you will want to serve it on your first anniversary. I'm not a wine expert and don't know off hand about the '75 vintage in Germany but the beerenauslese designation is a good clue. Maybe one of the real experts on the board will get back to you again.

P.S. to last reply--were you stationed in Frankfurt, Germany as a U.S. service member and did you go on any ski trips with the Frankfurt Ski Club? Seems I remember a David Toth from the old days (maybe your father?)
