1999 Dr. Von Bassermann-Jordon Forster Riesling Kabinett Pfalz

Very crisp and clear, viritually water clear with just a hint of yellow. Foral and mineral notes on the nose. Same on the palate. Medium acid with a long finish. $13

1998 Dr. Loosen Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett Mosel

Crisp and clear, but more color than the Bassermann: Very pale straw. Tart/Sour green apples with floral notes. Same on the palate with more pronounced apple. Almost like biting into a nice, tart granny smith. Huge acid that contributes to a long finish.

I think I prefered the Bassermann because it was a lot more delicate than the Loosen, although both were great. This basically is the complete German selection that the guys at my shop would actually recommend. I'm am going to have to put together a mixed case of German Riesling when I get to Portland.

Both houses make nice wines -- I have many bottles from each winery in my cellar, ranging from Kabinetts to Eisweins. Great summer drinkers, no?
