We've been nipping at the stuff for several evenings as a dessert wine, sometimes stretching a single bottle out over 3-4 days, following a red of some sort with dinner. Have found that it's better on day #2 and better still on day #3. What's "better"? The lemony tang is mellowed out, leaving a cleaner, crisper fruit, with no damage to the spritziness, surprisingly enough. I'm to the point of preferring to open a bottle and immediately cover the open neck with Saran-wrap, putting it in the fridge and waiting until the next evening to enjoy. But Debra still likes the stuff, so must endure the twanging, cloying sweetness as soon as the cork pops, at least for one glass. Such sacrifices we make for marital bliss.....

Wow! Can I quote this in our newsletter? Amazing proof that the complete neutering of Veuve has been accomplished by their new corporate masters. The fact that the current release yellow label is "lemony" and "tangy" at all instead of the rich, toasty, creamy, English Muffins in the oven, baked apple aromas and textures it had for over two centuries is one of the great crimes of our era...

Sure, quote if you wish, Roberto. I was surprised that the Cliquot could be salvaged at all. Still think that it's best use is in launching ships...

terrible thing to do to the side of a fine ship...I'm with Roberto: put the stuff out to pasture.

We don't carry it at is-wine, but so many people ask for it at this time of year. Some of them let us persuade them to change--others refuse to explore the rest of Champagne-dom. When that happens, and to get the rest of the wine order, we buy it at retail from a neighboring store, provide it to our customer, and make no money from it.

Sounds like a receipe for a franchise " We Buy Retail....We Sell Retail" WW

Well, ww, I tried something similar when I operated a vineyard--that is a business where you buy retail and sell wholesale...
