- jasmudger - 10-25-2004 Just been out, few beers - one of those non-wine nights, and i was dragged into a debate (in which I personally did see it as a debate..being right myself) Statement: 'Mate, its not Mo-et (someone rah i'd just met with some mates commenting on me talking about Moet) its Mo-ey - everyone knows that' He sounded patronising and sharp, as if i was stupid, and, it aroused a volley of laughs from his mates. I would of shrugged this off, but, he did say 'everyone knows that' A debate followed, and he got up to leave saying 'your wrong, blah blah blah, my father has a cellar and he says Mo-ey' I said 'So he must be right then' he said 'You're calling my Father a liar' I said 'no, i'm calling him wrong' with that he said 'F**k off' and left. I admit, I was slightly snobbish at the end, but, to pull a cliche out of the bag, 'he started it!' oh, btw if anyone ever comes to North England - the people, mostly, are lovely just misinformed. Over and out - jasmudger - 10-25-2004 and if you guys think, 'hes just been out!?' I think the UK is about 6/7 hours ahead so please dont think im an alcoholic it is actually 10:30 here at night! Not 2 in the afternoon! - Bucko - 10-25-2004 It IS Mo-ette. - Innkeeper - 10-25-2004 Don't worry Jimmy, most beer drinkers are snobs. - Thomas - 10-26-2004 It is Mo-et, but what does it matter: there are hundreds of better Champagne anyway... - winoweenie - 10-26-2004 It matters 'cause some snob wuz jawin' wif our friend Jas Foodie-i-poo. WW - Thomas - 10-27-2004 I know ww, just razzing jas a little... - newsguy - 10-27-2004 WW: Foodie-i-poo? That's a classic. - Thomas - 10-28-2004 Thanks newsguy--someone around here has taste... - jasmudger - 10-29-2004 there are better Champagnes out there i agree foodie-i-poo, but I've stayed under the hospitality of Moet (Mercier) twice now and I feel some sort of connection to it... what a place it is, to stand in those cellars, visit the l'eonotheque (is that right?) and taste champagne free for a week Have any of you guys been to Champagne? - wondersofwine - 10-29-2004 Not to Champagne. I've toured in Burgundy including the Hospice de Beaune and Dijon and Chateaux country in the Loire Valley (before I really knew about Loire wines I'm afraid)and around Avignon. - Thomas - 10-29-2004 Jas, Champagne is one of three regions in France I have not visited--yet. l'eonotheque? I didn't know the French used that term. Like Italian enoteca; I could never figire out why they don't call it vinoteca, since eno refers to the Greek and vino to the latin. Did you know the word "wine" stems from a semitic language that pre-dates Greek? Now that's interesting. |
