I've had this wine a few times and each time it is impressive. Deep garnet purple in color, opaque. Powerful, deep and intense nose of dark fruits and spices and the image is of a wild, vivid and powerful wine.

On the palate, the nose confirms the impression. Smooth, lush, full bodied, powerful, flavours arrives in waves and has a long finish. While thick, there is a nice acidity to it which allows it to still be brooding but not overbearing. Very nice especially for the price. ($30?? or so). Tough to beat with that price.

Unlike many Crianzas, this one could improve a bit with age, IMHO. Though it's somewhat expensive for a Crianza, it's of similar quality to the Reservas from many producers. I agree with your notes -- it's a nice wine. Another you might like is the Crianza from Bodegas LAN. Again, it's one that'll age a bit.

DA, thanks for the comments. I agree on the aging part. I bought a case with that intension but I keep hitting it . I'm hoping that there will be some that make it the distance.

I've tried the LAN and I do like it a lot also. I've got a few in the cellar too. You are right, for a Crianza the Pesquera is a bit on the high side, but for some reason, I never think of it as a crianza, but rather as it's own table wine. I'm not sure why I do that. Maybe there is so much on the label that it distracts me .

I have a few of the 2004 Pesquera Reservas and they are double the money at about $60 but have never tasted any of them.

This wine has not changed much in the last two years. Same notes, except perhaps it seems a little more compact if only just.

I need do find some Pesquera or Candado de Haza...
Haven't had one for a while, and I love the things.

Slowly working through the case now. The wine is just solid, notes have not changed much but is lovely and approachable now
