Montsant -- Very low yield, steep high vineyard 80% old vine (80 years) grenache and 20% syrah. Retailed in Atlanta at $13, and it seems almost too much wine for the price. This is a serious and ageworthy wine, one that I'll likely hold my remaining bottles for about 3-5 years minimum. It is fun to drink right now, however, if you splash decant and let sit for a half hour or so. Deep red to purple color and nose of black cherries and a touch of smoke or maybe charcoal. Nice, intense cherry-berry flavors, with a central streak of that wonderful grenache spiciness. Long finish that goes back to the nose of black cherry. 14% alc., which in the grand scheme of things, I suppose, is not out of line. At any rate, it was integrated well, and I didn't notice any heat. FWIW, WA 91. 10,000 cases imported.

This is one that I've been looking for in my area but Spanish wines are few and far between here...don't know the reason.

Drew, I don't know if you are close to a Total Wine in DE or VA but the one near me carries it. I have added it to my wine portfoilo for the next time I am there.

'04 Here tonight; $12.99 NH Liq Store. Was expecting something like a Spanish CDR, but quite different as Dan described. From reading his post, this one has not changed one iota in three years; price, alcohol level, and description identical. Imported by European Cellars LLC, Charlotte, NC.
Matched with Ash Wednesday macaroni and cheese, made as low fat as possible (semi-yuk); and spinach. Wine great. Match fine. Food? Well, it is a fast day.

Thanks for the updated info on the '04s. I still have one or two of the '01s, which I have not tried again since the above post. The '04s are just hitting the shelves down here, and I had been wondering whether to pick up a few. Will likely do so the next time I put together a mixed case. Again, thanks!

Saw that Wonders had popped one of the '04s recently, so I wanted to finally give it a shot. Really like how this is drinking right now, with it's black fruit aromas and flavors mingling with peppery spices and graphite or pencil lead. Good tannins holding it together, but it's approachable now. Nice winter evening wine. We paid about $11 locally. Alc. 14%. FWIW, RP 90.

This is one I might seek out again and in future vintages. I don't recall if I purchased it while in Greensboro, NC or elsewhere.
