2000 Carchelo, Jumilla D.D.C. ($9.00 Is-Wine). This baby weighs in at 50% monastrell (mourvedre), 30% tempranillo, 20% merlot, and 13% alcohol. The deep purple hue defines the color. It is reminiscent in many ways of Marietta Old Vine Red, but lighter and fresher. Lots of fresh red fruit on the nose and upfront, nice earthy complexity and smooth tannin across the palate; and a surprisingly lingerling finish. Had it with a light dinner of sauteed cube steak and salad. Very nice. Look for it, or get it from Foodie.
