14% alcohol by volume
Deep purple color; opaque. Some viscosity. Black fruit in evidence on nose and palate. Rich fruit with an earthy underpinning. Drying soft tannins on the finish. Paired nicely with a thick Angus beef filet cooked medium rare (was going to serve with a strip steak or sirloin after Tom Noland brought to mind the pairing of steak and Rioja but purchased two filets instead of steaks.) I believe I have the '98 and another vintage of this wine from the 90's. (WLDG Wine Focus this month is on Rioja, red and white, so I may open a few more Riojas and post notes.)
