A rustic Rioja with scents of crushed red and dark berries, tobacco and leather. Like flavors that favor the red berry profile with some hints of cinnamon and spice. Coarse tannins and a linguring finish make for a nice wine that will improve over a couple of years. 12.5% Alc/vol. $8.99

The name leaves a lot to be desired here -- reminds me of neonatal -- brings back bad memories of my neonatal rotations as a resident. Not my bag!

That said, Spain and Portugal still offer terrific QPR wines in today's market.

I had some of this juice tonight before dinner. It went well with almonds while I sat on my balcony and listened to cardinals. It was fruitier than most other Riojas I've had, but still a tasty vino.

Bucko, I share your dislike for the name "Neonato"--it makes me think of Neo-Nazis!

I, too, love this wine. I think it's great that Murrieta is finally putting out something at this price point and that it is approachable young. The older Reservas and the fantastic Ygays are wonderful, but, at times, it's great to be able to pop a sub $10 Rioja and enjoy it sooner rather than later just because it's a Tuesday night. I'm not at the income stage where I can do that with the Ygay
