I am hosting a wine tasting for friends and would like to ask each of 6-8 couples to bring a bottle of Italian wine to go with my winter menu. What regions/wines should we highlight?

If you want the most diversity of varietals and styles, either Alto Adige or Friuli. If you want the best value for money, Marches or Puglia. If you want the most obscure (and interesting), Oltrepo Pavese and Valtellina from Lombardia. If you want to do the same old, same old, Tuscany and Piemonte.
