First off, a re-cap of my TN's from the previous vintage.

"2000 Selaks Founders Reserve Noble Reisling: (375ml) This was the first dessert wine I've brought and it was worth every penny of the NZ$25 price tag. Actually, I knew I was going to buy it the moment I tasted it. Smooth, sweet but not cloying, and just delicious. Tastes like melted apricot jam to my (Fairly untrained) palate. The father-in-law thought it would age well over three years. Both the mother-in-law and I gave our bottles 12 hours to mature. (And I'm now hanging out for the chance to pick up a replacement bottle. A half-bottle of this one is 375mls too little.)"

Now read on...

The 2001 is a fine follow-up to its sadly no-longer-among-us brother. Big, nose-filling aroma, not as "jammy" as its predecessor, but still as smooth and drinkable, with a slightly honeyed finish. (More like a nice marmalade than jam.) And the good backbone of acid made for a nice sherbert character, too. A pleasure to drink, and THIS time, I'm determined to squirrel some away.

Probably.

Edit: And here's what the young fella looks like. Ain't he cute? http://www.nobilo.co.nz/wines/NZ/sel_founders_nob_riesling.html
